SNOW AND DAFFODILS...

This is what it looks like going in my back door today! My poor
daffodils! They are covered with about two inches of snow

and boy is it cold out there! I am so glad I don't have to get up and
drive to work in this! I did have to go out about ten this morning
to go to the Dentist. I only live about three blocks from him so I didn't feel
right about calling and canceling. Know what I mean?

HOSPITAL WEEK...

We have been at the hospital most of this week. Monday they did a
chemical stress test on Suzie which took most of the day. Made her so sick and
what a headache it gave her. I felt so bad for her. Didn't hear
anything on that until the next day and was told there where shadows on the heart.

Wednesday they ran a Angiogram and found 30% blockage on
the right side and the vessels on the left were very very tiny.
Tiny because of smoking, they will not go back to regular
size but will continue to get smaller and smaller if she
continues to smoke.

Her Doctor and the staff at the Hospital were GREAT! They were so good to her,
took great care of her.

Her little buddies sent her cards and the girls that work for
her came to see her and sent flowers.

She is one of those people that get up in the night and have to eat, so the
nurse would bring her a late night snack. She got to come home
late Wednesday night and has to (HAS TO) stop smoking, change eating
habits and walk, walk, walk. She has had only four cigs since Sunday and
for her that is doing good. It's going to be so hard but her husband and
her son both are going to try to stop smoking with her. That may
help a little...

SILENT HEART ATTACK?

My daughter, Suzie is in the hospital today and they think she has had
a silent heart attack. I never heard of a silent heart attack! It may be silent but
it is also scary! They are going to do a stress test in the morning. She
said she is feeling a little better but she is tired, hungry and ready for some more meds.

My daughter, Suzie and my grandson, Josh went to the Chili Bowl
in Tulsa, Oklahoma again the year. They go and spend the week-end
with Suzie's dad and take in the Chili Bowl and of course I have to
snag a few of their pictures.

Sam Cat found us when she was about 3 months old. As you can see she took
very good care of Joshua. She was a very very sweet girl and a great friend. Josh and
his mom had to put Sam to sleep today. Josh is now 19 so Sam was 16/17 years old.

Sam Cat One....She is Sam Cat One because Josh found another little kitten
at our house when he was about eleven and said we have to keep him because he looks
just like Sam. So now we have Sam Cat Two. We will miss you sweet baby girl!

My husband tried his hand at making a Blackberry Cobbler for Josh since
that is his very favorite thing to eat. Hubby wrapped it up and gave it
to Josh on Christmas (with all his other presents) and sent it home with him.
We ask him later how it was and if it was good.
Josh got this funny look on his face and
said mmmm I'm not sure. I put it in the fridge and forgot about it.
Think I'm going over there with some ice cream and help myself!

Guess I should feel a bit guilty but I don't! I am really looking forward to Monday, December 26, when all this Christmas stuff is over. Don't get me wrong, I'm not as bad as that old guy in the Christmas Story movie but I will sure be glad when this is all over. This little Santa is the only Christmas decoration I have in my house. We haven't put up a tree in the past five years. Unlike the rest of you my family is not the "Leave it to Beaver" type family or any of those other TV families you see all lovie-dovie. We all get together for Christmas Eve and have for years but it's a big unhappy chore for most of them. We have Christmas Dinner at my mom's on Christmas day and if her favorite child is not in attendance she is like an old wet hen. My husband and I are trying to change it this year and have the dinner at our house....wish me luck!

I found some more picture of my dad's aunt Sarah's family. I don't know what it
is that makes me love genealogy but I do!
I could and do stay on the genealogy sites most of the day
and just have a jolly good time all by myself. I have seven
notebooks full of family pictures and facts on the Hopper's
and three on the Moore's. One notebook is full of Civil War records
on my G Grandfather Moore. My aunt, Ann Moore Gulick, sent off
for the records and we sure found a wealth of information. Even
found letters my G Grandmother had written about getting his
pension and more letters written by my Grandfather when my
G Grandmother had died. You just never know what you are going
to find. The best thing of all is finding cousins I never knew I had and
becoming friends and even getting to meet a few of them!

Today is my mother's 87th birthday. She is so spry and such a go-getter and
can do anything she wants to do. Any time I wonder if I can do
something, I think well my mom did it, so I can too. Sometimes she

4. It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.
5. Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.
6. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling..
7. Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.
8. To freshen the air in your home - Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.
9. Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.
10. Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

17. Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.
18. Eliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.
19. Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.
20. Golfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.
21. Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. It will keep them smelling fresh.

22. Wet a Bounce sheet, hose down your car, and wipe love bugs off easily with the wet Bounce.

What in the world is going on? Tornado warnings on the TV until 4 in the morning and then a 4.7 earthquake rumbles across my house! Windows and doors rattling with a low rumble noise. I think enough is enough....Anyone else feeling these?

This is what woke me up last night just before11:00 PM! I really thought it was strong wind but sit up in bed thinking why is the pictures rattleing? Just as I laid back down my grandson, Josh called and ask if I felt the earthquake and I "said is that what that was?". I should have known after living in California for so long but it didn't even enter my head but it sure shook the house! We live in Arkansas and about three hours away from Sparks, Oklahoma. I sure am glad I wasn't there!

SPARKS, Okla. - Oklahoma residents more accustomed to tornadoes than earthquakes have been shaken by weekend temblors that cracked buildings, buckled a highway and rattled nerves. One quake late Saturday was the state's strongest ever and jolted a college football stadium 50 miles away.

It was followed by 10 aftershocks by midmorning Sunday. But although homes and other buildings cracked and suffered minor damage, there were no reports of severe injuries or major devastation.

The magnitude 5.6 earthquake was Oklahoma's strongest on record, said Jessica Turner, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey. Centered near Sparks, 44 miles northeast of Oklahoma City, it could be felt throughout the state and in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, northern Texas and some parts of Illinois and Wisconsin. It followed a magnitude 4.7 quake early Saturday that was felt from Texas to Missouri.

FAMILY REUNION...

We have been checking out places to have our "HOPPER REUNION"
next summer. This is Natural Falls State Park and this is one
beautiful place to have it. Big room, kitchen, patio with smoker and
grill, RV park, Wi-Fi, playground and a short walk to the Falls.

This is the entrance to the reunion room and the patio on the side and
can have it for $125.00 per day.

This is Honey Creek RV Park and you can have the six table for $75.00 a day.

Still looking....have looked at a number of parks but did not take pictures because
we are not going there :)

Insurance man came and checked every thing out. Now we will see what happens. Not much I bet!
Had the Geek Squad out here twice and most things are up and running. The only thing is I can't get
my laptop to print. I'm on my way to Best Buy again today to get a new virus program and find out
about my printer. Why does things work when the repair person is here and when they leave and
you try to do it ... no way will it work!!!! I'm getting them to come back out and try again, why have
the stuff and pay all that money if it won't work! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr........

LIGHTING STRIKE!

Rain last night was Great except for the BIG LIGHTING STRIKE that hit our house at 4:10 AM. Talk about someone coming out of bed!!!! Big BOOM Big LIGHT!!!

We lost the TV out of the living room, TV out of the bedroom, the VCR, my photo printer, my scanner/printer/copy for my laptop, my modem and my router plus the limbs from the trees hit the roof and now we have a leak over the washer. Hubby got me a new modem cause I gotta have my internet and a TV for him.

stomach virus that knocked me on my fanny. If that wasn't
bad enough I gave it to my husband. Don't know what it was
but as the Dr. said "it's nasty stuff". He told us it will hang on

DAVID DAVENPORT & DICIE YOUNG HOPPER

The Hoppers were true pioneer settlers of California. David Davenport Hopper was born on September 12, 1825 on the Chickamauga Creek, about ten miles from Chattanooga, Tennessee the seventh child of John David Hopper and Mary Davenport. When David was about fifteen years of age, he and his family moved to Lafayette County, Missouri, where he met Clarissa "Dicie" Young, a native of Lafayette County, Missouri. Dicie was born March 20, 1825 and was the daughter of John Young and Sarah Hopper. John Young died on the plains and was buried on the Green River while with an earlier wagon train party. Sarah Ann Hopper was the daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Jeanie Gray Hopper and Thomas Hopper was a brother to David's father, John David Hopper. David and Dicie were married on January 23, 1845 in Lafayette Co., Missouri. Two daughters were born to David and Dicie in Lafayette County, Missouri, Mary Catherine, on November 19, 1845, and Sarah Eveline, on October 04, 1848.

Some of the Hoppers and Youngs were probably members of the Hudspeth/Myers party. David, Dicie, and their two daughters, Sarah who was four and Mary who was six, came out with the Hagans-Cockrill party in 1853. The 125 members of this particular party was a collection of families and friends making up a significant portion of the village of Pleasant Gap in Bates County. They came well prepared and self-sufficient to contend with any difficulty that their new unsettled home might confront them with. Their 31 wagons, filled with the supplies and tools which it was in their experience necessary to sustain life in a wilderness, were each drawn by 4 to 6 oxen depending on the load. There was also a "chest of money" in one of the wagons to buy land with. For the most part, the wagons were too full to ride in except for the drivers, and most of the members of the band walked the distance, along with a thousand head of cattle, a similar amount of sheep, several fine horses, milk cows, and one would assume, a small menagerie of chickens, ducks, dogs and cats -- all that was necessary to seed a successful life with their experience.

From 1853 to 1854, Hopper settled near Penngrove, Sonoma County, California and remained there for a year. The Hoppers moved several times and from 1854 to 1856, they settled in New Town near Petaluma, which was a development of his cousin, Thomas Hopper. Thomas Hopper was one of the first to make money in the mines. He could not read or write, but became president-owner of three banks in Sonoma County. His son urged him to learn how to read and write, but he replied that he would do so as soon as his son could sign his name to as big a check as he could. Their Petaluma residence occupied the present site of the Northwestern Pacific Depot, and there Mr. Hopper conducted a dairy for two years.

In 1857, he located on a branch of the Skaggs Springs/Gualala River, now known as Old House Creek, which was derived its name from the house that David built on the bank of that creek. There he also took up a claim and soon afterward bought an adjoining ranch from John Moffett and Wilson Brown. Thus becoming the owner of, between seven and eight thousand acres. Subsequently the family returned to Healdsburg in order that he might give his children better education advantages, but he remained on the ranch most of the time raising sheep on the Gualala River, which is on the northern border of Sonoma County. A third daughter, Ida Jane, was born in Healdsburg, in 1860.

Mr. Hopper was one of the most successful and noted hunters who ever lived in this part of the state. He killed many bears, including grizzly, black, and cinnamon, also eight wolves, many panthers and innumerable deer. During one winter season he killed thirty-five bears. He used an old muzzle-loading gun which once failed to fire after he had wounded a cinnamon bear, and the enraged animal attacked him, but he killed it with a hatchet. Mr. Hopper had the respect and confidence of all who knew him and was a most liberal man, very devoted to his family.

Soon after his daughter, Ida Jane, became the wife of Mr. Nathan Henry Cox (1876), he gave her a tract of two hundred and twenty-five acres of land near Healdsburg and he also presented his two other daughters with fine ranches. He was a wonderfully big hearted man whose only thought was to see his family comfortably situated.

In 1865, Hopper bought the A.B. Aull ranch on Westside Road, where he built a fine house and resided with his wife until his death on December 4, 1907. Dicie Hopper died six years later in 1913. Shirley & Marcy

A mother was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school.

He didn't want his mother to walk with him.

She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.

So she had an idea of how to handle it.

She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school

in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he wouldn't notice her.

The neighbor said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.

The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school

with another neighbor girl he knew. She did this for the whole week.

As the two walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy 's little friend noticed the same lady was following them

as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy , 'Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?'

Timmy nonchalantly replied, 'Yeah, I know who she is.'

The little girl said, 'Well, who is she?'

'That's just Shirley Goodnest ,' Timmy replied, 'and her daughter Marcy.'

'Shirley Goodnest? Who is she and why is she following us?'

'Well,' Timmy explained, 'every night my Mum makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me

so much. And in the Psalm, it says, 'Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life',

so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!'

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

Painting and adding new carpet to my craft room that I have to share with
the laundry room.

Sam Cat is my helper as well and my grandson, Josh, who pulled most of
the contact paper off the walls and did a bunch of painting. Yes, who ever
did this room before used contact instead of wallpaper and was it ever
hard to get off!!!

FRONT YARD WRECK...

Was sitting in my living room this morning reading around 9:30 when
I heard this noise that sounded like a freight train coming in my
living room. I ran out to the porch thinking "the fence will be on
the porch" and this is what I saw!

My neighbor ran the stop sign and was t-boned! The stop sign and street sign are under
the van. Thank God, no one was hurt, not even my fence !

As you can see the van was touching my fence....I'm very happy I still have my fence
but I'm soooo sorry for those poor people... My husband and I was sitting on the porch
yesterday counting the cars that rolled that stop sign (even a cop car) and said one of
these days someone is going to get it...Looks like today was the day :(

Someone decorated our back room, which was once the back porch, with
contact paper! I have been spending the past few days peeling it off
with the help of my grandson, Joshua. When we get the paper
off I am going to paint it a very soft yellow with bright white trim
and turn it into my art studio and get back into my painting...and
I hope I won't be painting walls!

My baby turns 44 today. Where has all the time gone? My
little Suzy-Q is all grown up and a wife and mother herself.
She has two beautiful boys, Justin is 21 and serving in
Afghanistan with the Marines and Joshua is 18 and a
Senior in High School.

I think I am a little tired of it right now and as my
family can tell you, it's not my favorite thing to do!
